Here's something to consider when shopping for makeup.

Be careful with those samples you try on at the stores…. you might end up with anything from herpes to pink eye!

According to a two-year study, Dr. Elizabeth Brooks, a biological sciences professor, found staph, strep, and E. coli bacteria on public makeup testers! Says Dr. Brooks:

"We went to department stores, specialty stores, drugstores — everywhere. Wherever you see E. coli, you should just think ‘E. coli equals feces.' That means someone went to the bathroom, didn't wash their hands and then stuck their fingers in that moisturizer."

Also noteworthy, turns out that testing those makeup samples on the weekend is even worse.

According to the study, samples taken on Saturdays showed the percentage of tainted makeup was at 100%. Dermatologist Dr. Zein Obagi, adds:

"If a woman has a cut on her lip and borrows lipstick from someone who has a cold sore, she'll get a cold sore. You can pass herpes [the cold sore virus], conjunctivitis [pink eye] and all sorts of things through sharing makeup."

So what's a girl to do?

Never use communal makeup brushes. Instead, opt for a disposable applicator or cotton swab.

And always try to ditch the makeup testers which everyone shares and ask for the individual samples.
